If that person were appointed only by the Senate — if only the Senate were to have a voice in the appointment of that person — it would seem to me that, just as night follows day, that person would be perceived to be under the thumb of the Senate and thus permanently vulnerable to pressures exerted by those whom that person would advise and whose files and information would be entrusted to that person.
Si cette personne était nommée seulement par le Sénat — si le Sénat était le seul à se prononcer sur la nomination de cette personne —, il me semble que, aussi évidemment que la nuit succède au jour, cette personne serait perçue comme étant à la merci du Sénat et, donc, vulnérable en permanence aux pressions exercées par ceux que conseillerait cette personne et dont il obtiendrait des dossiers et des renseignements en toute confiance.
