Michel Barnier, the Member of the European Commission with responsibility for regional policy, today presented the findings of a study of island regions and the group of seven so-called 'outermost regions' .

The INTERREG Programme for border regions of Portugal and Spain has the following general priorities: the promotion and creation of conditions permitting the balanced economic and social development of these regions; the stabilization of the indigenous population and the ordered growth of urban centres in these regions; and the improvement of integration between the economies of these regions within the wider economic area of the Iberian Peninsula.
