(30) Since the objective of aviation safety improvement cannot be sufficiently achieved by the Member States because reporting systems operated by Member States in isolation are less efficient than a coordinated network with exchange of information allowing identification of possible safety problems and key risk areas at Union level, analysis at national level should be complemented by analysis and follow-up at Union level in order to ensure better prevention of aviation accidents and incidents.

– (FR) More independent safety investigations in the event of an aviation accident, improved assistance for the families of victims and optimum protection of data and privacy during an investigation are all measures which will improve aviation safety and factors which persuaded me to vote in favour of this report.
– Renforcement de l’indépendance des enquêtes de sécurité en cas d’accident d’avion, meilleure prise en charge des familles des victimes, protection optimale des données et de la vie privée lors de ces enquêtes; sont autant de mesures qui vont faire progresser la sécurité aérienne et autant d’éléments qui m’ont incité à voter en faveur de ce rapport.

I therefore highlight the contribution made by this report to the quality and independence of civil aviation accident and incident investigations, harmonising the Member States’ investigation capabilities and, at the same time, ensuring that European legislation in this area is well adapted and up to date, in view of the changes taking place in the sector and the appearance of new actors such as the European Aviation Safety Agency.
