The German and Swedish delegations, supported by the Belgian, Greek, Italian and Netherlands delegations, wished to draw the Council's attention to the forthcoming World Food Summit to be held under the auspices of the FAO five years after the last meeting in 1996, and to brief it on the state of preparations for that Summit. The German delegation also briefed the Council on the outcome of the "Politics against Hunger" workshop organised in Berlin on 22 and 23 May 2002, at which discussion had focussed on the development of a voluntary code of conduct on the right to food.
