In the last weeks, there have been encouraging signals that other countries such as Israel or India are considering to follow the Union's example on animal tests for cosmetics.
Au cours des dernières semaines, il y a eu des signes encourageants selon lesquels des pays comme Israël et l’Inde envisagent de suivre l’exemple de l’Union concernant l’expérimentation animale dans le secteur des cosmétiques.

Commission Decision 2010/381/EU of 8 July 2010 on emergency measures applicable to consignments of aquaculture products imported from India and intended for human consumption (3) provides that at least 20 % of the consignments of aquaculture products from India intended for human consumption are to be tested for the presence of pharmacologically active substances as defined in Article 2(a) of Regulation (EC) No 470/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council (4), and in particular of chloramphenicol, tetracycline, oxytetracycline and chlortetracycline and of metabolites of nitrofurans.
La décision 2010/381/UE de la Commission du 8 juillet 2010 relative à des mesures d’urgence applicables aux lots de produits de l’aquaculture importés d’Inde et destinés à la consommation humaine (3) dispose qu’au moins 20 % des lots de produits de l’aquaculture provenant d’Inde et destinés à la consommation humaine doivent être analysés pour détecter la présence de substances pharmacologiquement actives définies à l’article 2, point a), du règlement (CE) no 470/2009 du Parlement européen et du Conseil (4), et notamment du chloramphénicol, de la tétracycline, de l’oxytétracycline, de la chlortétracycline et des métabolites de nitrofuranes.

The testing should also continue in order to deter producers in India from misusing those substances.
Ces contrôles devraient également être poursuivis afin de dissuader les producteurs indiens d’abuser de ces substances.

The obligation for a mandatory testing should however be maintained to continue to provide more accurate information on the possible contamination of aquaculture products originating from India with those residues.
L’obligation d’effectuer des contrôles devrait toutefois être maintenue afin de continuer de fournir des données plus précises sur une éventuelle contamination par ces résidus des produits de l’aquaculture en provenance d’Inde.

Commission Decision 2009/727/EC of 30 September 2009 on emergency measures applicable to crustaceans imported from India and intended for human consumption or animal feed (5) already provides that consignments of crustaceans of aquaculture origin introduced from India and intended for human consumption or animal feed are to be tested for the presence of nitrofurans or their metabolites before they are imported into the Union.
La décision 2009/727/CE de la Commission du 30 septembre 2009 sur les mesures d’urgence applicables aux crustacés importés de l’Inde et destinés à la consommation humaine ou à l’alimentation animale (5) prévoit déjà que les lots de crustacés issus de l’aquaculture importés d’Inde et destinés à la consommation humaine ou à l’alimentation animale doivent être analysés pour détecter la présence de nitrofuranes ou de leurs métabolites avant qu’ils ne soient importés dans l’Union.

In addition a significant proportion of the aquaculture products imported from India should undergo mandatory testing by the Member States for the detection of pharmacology active substances as defined in Regulation (EC) No 470/2009 before those products are placed on the market.
Par ailleurs, il convient que les États membres soumettent une proportion significative des produits de l’aquaculture importés d’Inde, avant leur mise sur le marché, à un contrôle obligatoire destiné à détecter la présence de substances pharmacologiquement actives au sens du règlement (CE) no 470/2009.

Following the nuclear tests by India and Pakistan the Commission has participated in the international taskforce set up to develop confidence and security-building measures and to engage these countries in constructive discussions on regional non-proliferation and arms control.

In the light of how important this is in relation to recent political developments with respect to nuclear testing in India and Pakistan, and concern that the financial situation in Far East Asia could pose some difficulties in pursuing the construction of the two reactors, considers that KEDO is essential for security and stability not only in Asia but for the rest of the world;
