The possible economic burdens for Union enterprises can be reduced by harnessing the potential of biotechnology processes and bio-based products to reduce CO emissions, estimated to range from between 1 to 2,5 billion tonnes CO equivalent per year by 2030.

The States Representatives Group shall receive information on a regular basis, in particular on the participation in indirect actions funded by the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking, on the outcome of each call and project implementation, on synergies with other relevant Union programmes, on the execution of the Bio-Based Industries budget and on the dissemination and exploitation of research results.

(30d) Taking due account of the intended synergies between Horizon 2020 and the Structural Funds as well as relevant national and regional RD funding programmes, regions across the Union should be encouraged to contribute pro-actively to the activities of the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking, for example by supporting financially relevant research infrastructure, the preparation of proposals, the exploitation of research results or the networking activities of relevant actors, aiming at boosting the regional impact of Bio-Based Industries JU activities and their potential to create jobs and growth at regional level.
(30 quinquies) Compte dûment tenu des synergies voulues entre le programme-cadre "Horizon 2020" et les Fonds structurels, ainsi que les programmes de financement de recherche et développement aux niveaux national et régional, il conviendrait d'encourager les régions à travers l'Union à contribuer en amont aux activités de l'EC Bio-industries, par exemple en soutenant financièrement les infrastructures de recherche concernées, en préparant des propositions, en exploitant les résultats de recherche ou les activités de mise en réseau des acteurs concernés, dans le but de renforcer l'impact régional des activités de l'EC Bio-industries et leur potentiel de création d'emplois et de croissance au niveau régional.

(14) The ambition and scope of the objectives of the Joint Technology Initiative on Bio-based Industries, the scale of the financial and technical resources that need to be mobilized, and the need to achieve effective coordination and synergy of resources and funding, require the involvement of the Union.
(14) L'importance et la portée des objectifs de l'ITC Bio-industries, l'ampleur des ressources financières et techniques à mobiliser et la nécessité de parvenir à une coordination et à une synergie efficaces des ressources et des financements nécessitent l'intervention de l'Union.

(16) To achieve maximum impact, the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking should develop close synergies with other Union programmes in areas such as education, environment, competitiveness and SMEs, and with the Cohesion Policy funds and Rural Development Policy, which can specifically help to strengthen national and regional research and innovation capabilities in the context of smart specialisation strategies.
(16) Pour un impact maximal, d'étroites synergies devraient être réalisées entre l'EC Bio-industries et d'autres programmes de l'Union dans des secteurs tels que l'éducation, l'environnement, la compétitivité et les PME, ainsi qu'avec les fonds de la politique de cohésion et avec la politique de développement rural, qui peuvent contribuer spécifiquement à renforcer les capacités nationales et régionales de recherche et d'innovation dans le contexte des stratégies de spécialisation intelligente.

At the same time it could include targets around becoming a technology pioneer by creating pilot schemes and demonstrators of innovative processes and solutions, involving for example the use of economically attractive and sustainable alternative materials, including bio-based materials of strategic importance to the Union.
Parallèlement, elle pourrait viser à jouer un rôle de pionnier technologique en créant des projets pilotes et de démonstration de solutions et de procédés innovants faisant appel, par exemple, à l'utilisation de matières de substitution économiquement intéressantes et durables, notamment des biomatériaux d'une importance stratégique pour l'Union.
