has entered common usage in recent years, refers to all citizen groups outside the state including action groups, volunteer organizations, academics, non- government organizations, non-profit organizations, unions and the business commun

Je ne voulais pas utiliser un langage offensant au Sénat alors j'ai cherché l'origine de l'expression et je l'ai trouvée dans le site Web du gouvernement du Canada, où il est écrit que l'expression «société civile», entrée dans l'usage récemment, se rapporte à tous les groupes de citoyens n'appartenant pas à l'État, notamment les groupes d'action, les organismes de bénévoles, les universitaires, les organisations non gouvernementales, les organisations sans but lucratif, les syndicats et le milieu des affaires.
