In its CARS 2020 Communication, the Commission noted the shortcoming of the current procedures and committed to a new test procedure in the type-approval framework to assess NOx emissions of light-duty vehicles under real-world driving conditions.[6] Real driving emissions (RDE) of NOx will be recorded and communicated as from the mandatory Euro 6 dates (in 2014) and, no more than three years later the RDE procedure will be applied for type approval, together with robust not-to-exceed (NTE) emission limits.
De Commissie heeft in haar CARS 2020-mededeling de tekortkomingen van de huidige procedures onderkend en zet zich in voor een nieuwe testprocedure in het kader van de typegoedkeuring met het oog op de beoordeling van NOx-emissies van lichte voertuigen in reële verkeersomstandigheden[6].
