Voor cosmetica heeft de EC het Wetenschappelijk Comité voor consumentenproducten (WCCP) verzocht zijn leidraad voor het testen van ingrediënten te toetsen en eventueel te wijzigen en de veiligheid van cosmetische ingrediënten in de vorm van nanodeeltjes te beoordelen[13]. Het WCCP heeft op 19 juni 2007 een advies voor openbare raadpleging goedgekeurd[14], waarin het tot de conclusie komt dat de veiligheid van de nanomaterialen die momenteel in zonnebrandproducten worden gebruikt, in het licht van recente informatie moet worden geëvalueerd; tevens benadrukt het de mogelijke invloed van een fysiologisch abnormale huid en mechanische effecten op de huidpenetratie.
