Considers the latest ordinations to be a sign of goodwill and enhanced mutual cooperation between China and the Holy See, and calls on the Chinese authorities to continue in their willingness to pave the way for a sincere and constructive dialogue between China and the Holy See; points, therefore, to the need to respect the freedom of the Church and preserve the autonomy of its institutions from any external interference which undermines confidence in reciprocal dialogue and advances in freedom in China;

54. is van oordeel dat de recente wijding van bisschoppen afbreuk doet aan het feit dat China zich onlangs bereid heeft verklaard om de weg vrij te maken voor een oprechte en constructieve dialoog tussen de VRC en de Heilige Stoel; wijst derhalve op de noodzaak om de vrijheid van de kerk te eerbiedigen en de autonomie van haar instituties van elke inmenging van buitenaf te vrijwaren, die niet alleen zou indruisen tegen de door beide partijen overeengekomen afspraken, maar ook het vertrouwen op een dialoog op basis van gelijkheid en op vorderingen op het gebied van de vrijheid zou ondermijnen;
