TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

De resolutie steunt de reeds door de Commissie ondernomen pogingen om de textiel- en kledingindustrie te helpen de problemen het hoofd te bieden die zijn ontstaan door de afschaffing van de contingenten op 1 januari 2005.

Stresses that the EU textiles and clothing industry, which currently employs 2.6 million workers and generates a turnover of EUR 230 billion, has faced permanent restructuring challenges and needs the joint support of the Commission and the Member States to strengthen its competitiveness, by promoting specific EU added values, such as logistical infrastructures, the geographical proximity of the EU markets, the rapid delivery of client requests, innovation in fashion and design, product quality and the role played by wholesale distribution;

De uitbreiding, de grote veranderingen in het internationale handelsklimaat en de ontwikkelingen op de beleidsgebieden van de EU die specifieke factoren van de concurrentiepositie van de Europese textiel- en kledingindustrie betreffen, zijn de belangrijkste uitdagingen waaraan de beleidsmakers en de actoren in de sector de komende jaren het hoofd moeten bieden.
Enlargement, significant changes in the international trade environment and developments in areas of EU policy related to specific factors of competitiveness of the European textiles and clothing industry represent major challenges to policy makers and to stakeholders in the sector for the coming years.

Daarbij komt dat de Europese textiel- en kledingindustrie geconcentreerd is in bepaalde regio’s en hoofdzakelijk gebruik maakt van vrouwelijke arbeidskrachten. De situatie is dus bijzonder ernstig en het is dringend noodzakelijk dat de overheden op alle niveaus resoluut actie ondernemen, zodat de sector met succes deze uitdagingen het hoofd kan bieden.
