20. acht de organisatie van openbare hoorzittingen een zeer belangrijk middel om de door indieners aan de orde gestelde problemen te onderzoeken; vestigt de aandacht op de openbare hoorzitting over de gevolgen van de crisis voor de Europese burgers en de versterking van de democratische betrokkenheid bij het bestuur van de Unie, alsmede op de openbare hoorzitting over maximaal profijt van het EU-burgerschap, waarbij de bezorgdheden zijn geanalyseerd die EU-burgers over beide onderwerpen in verzoekschriften hadden geuit; is van mening dat de informatie die in verzoekschriften wordt verstrekt, getuigt van de gevolgen van de bezuinigingen voor de rechten van de indieners als persoon en van de toegenomen rol en de grotere betrokkenheid van maatschappelijke organisaties; beseft dat Europa met het oog op de aanpak van de financiële uitdagingen van morgen behoefte heeft aan een geloofwaardige, zichtbare en verantwoordingsplichtige economische governance; onderstreept dat het van belang is om de laatste obstakels weg te nemen die verhinderen dat EU-burgers gebruik kunnen maken van de rechten die hun op grond van het EU-recht toekomen, en om de deelname van de EU-burgers aan het politieke leven van de EU te bevorderen;

Believes that the organisation of public hearings is a very important tool for examining problems raised by petitioners; draws attention to the public hearing held on the impact of the crisis on Europe’s citizens and the reinforcement of democratic involvement in the governance of the Union, as well as to the public hearing on making the most of EU citizenship, which analysed the concerns raised in both respects by EU citizens based on petitions received; considers that the information provided in petitions demonstrates the personal impact of the austerity drive on the rights of the petitioners as well as showing the greater role and commitment of civil society; recognizes that to tackle tomorrow’s financial challenge Europe needs credible, visible and accountable economic governance; underlines the importance of combating the remaining obstacles to EU Citizens’ enjoyment of their rights under EU law as well as promoting EU citizens’ political participation in the life of the EU;

(b) ziet er, zo nodig met de steun van de Conferentie van commissievoorzitters, op toe dat de Commissie naar behoren bij de organisatie van de openbare hoorzitting wordt betrokken en dat zij bij de hoorzitting op passend niveau wordt vertegenwoordigd.
