4. A Joint Consultative Committee, consisting of representatives of the Consultative Committee of the Central American Integration System (CC-SICA) and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), shall be established in order to assist the Joint Committee to promote dialogue with economic and social organizations of civil society.

(7) In its Communication on a Community programme in the field of safety, hygiene and health protection at work (1996-2000), the Commission stressed the need to streamline the operation of the two advisory committees - the Advisory Committee for Safety, Hygiene and Health Protection at Work and the Safety and Health Commission for the Mining and Other Extractive Industries - by merging them, reducing the number of members and giving them a single secretariat.

The Advisory Committee is concerned to have assurances that the work of the ACSHH will not be affected unduly by the restructuring and that the staffing and resources available to the Advisory Committee are not diminished but will reflect the increase in the wide variety of demands placed on the Committee, and thus in turn the Secretariat, by the work programme and the priorities identified in this opinion.
