"Juvenes Translatores" (Latijn voor "jonge vertalers") is de enige wedstrijd waarbij 17-jarigen hun vertaaltalent kunnen demonstreren in eender welke officiële taal van de EU. De wedstrijd werd in 2007 voor het eerst als proefproject georganiseerd om jongeren met het werk van vertalers kennis te laten maken en het beroep van vertaler en het leren van talen op school in de kijker te plaatsen.
‘Juvenes Translatores’ (Latin for ‘young translators’) is the only contest in which the 17-year-olds can test their translation skills in any of the official languages of the EU. It was run for the first time in 2007 as a pilot project to give young people a taste of what it is like to be a translator and to raise the profile of the translation profession and of language learning in schools.

Translators of the Translation DG marked the texts and were therefore instrumental in determining the best translation from each EU Member State.

Onder de meer dan 1300 inzendingen selecteerden 126 vertalers van het Directoraat-generaal Vertaling van de Commissie de beste vertaling per lidstaat. Dat was geen gemakkelijke opgave, want de kwaliteit van de vertalingen was over het algemeen erg goed.
Over 1,300 texts were sent in, and 126 translators of the Directorate-General for Translation participated in the marking with a view to finding the best translation from each EU Member State. The general level of translations was high, and the assessment work was not easy.
