Believes that tracing products, on the basis of identification and registration, is particularly important in animal health monitoring and disease prevention and food safety; supports, in this connection, action covering the compulsory electronic and DNA-based genetic identification and registration of animals at EU-level and the introduction of a comprehensive and secure animal movement monitoring system, but draws attention to the cost of such a system, particularly for farms working with economically unfavourable farm structures; calls on the Commission to help farmers cope with the high costs incurred through the procurement of the required equipment, by creating the possibility for Member States to incorporate such measures within their rural development programmes;

Wij benadrukken ook dat het nodig is dat de Europese Commissie in de context van de Wereldhandelsorganisatieonderhandelingen rekening houdt met de specifieke kenmerken van landbouwproductie als voedselproducerende sector en als structurerend element voor territoriale balans, bescherming van het milieu en het bewaken van een kwantitatief en kwalitatief adequaat niveau van voedselveiligheid.
We also stress the need for the European Commission to take account, in the context of the World Trade Organization negotiations, of the specific characteristics of agricultural production as a food production sector, and a structuring element for territorial balance, preservation of the environment and the safeguarding of adequate quantitative and qualitative levels of food safety.

12. is van mening dat de kern van het werk van de EAV dient te bestaan uit het verstrekken van wetenschappelijke adviezen, het verzamelen en analyseren van wetenschappelijke feiten die nodig zijn als basis voor de besluitvormingsprocessen in de Gemeenschap en het volgen en bewaken van ontwikkelingen die de voedselveiligheid raken inclusief de veiligheid van drinkwater;
12. Considers that the core of the EFSA's work should be the provision of scientific advice, the collection and analysis of scientific facts required to inform the Community's decision-making processes and the monitoring and surveillance of developments touching upon food safety, including the safety of drinking water;
