TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

The policy of the Union in accordance with this Section shall not prejudice the specific character of the security and defence policy of certain Member States and shall respect the obligations of certain Member States, which see their common defence realised in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), under the North Atlantic Treaty and be compatible with the common security and defence policy established within that framework.
La politique de l'Union au sens de la présente section n'affecte pas le caractère spécifique de la politique de sécurité et de défense de certains États membres, elle respecte les obligations découlant du traité de l'Atlantique Nord pour certains États membres qui considèrent que leur défense commune est réalisée dans le cadre de l'Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique Nord (OTAN) et elle est compatible avec la politique commune de sécurité et de défense arrêtée dans ce cadre.

- Formulation of a common European armaments policy based on a sustainable defence technological and industrial base, with development of effective RD programmes to meet the defence and security needs identified for Europe's Common Foreign and Security Policy and to enhance European capabilities within the North Atlantic Alliance.
- La formulation d'une politique d'armement européenne commune reposant sur une base industrielle et technologique de défense durable, comprenant l'élaboration de programmes de RD efficaces pour répondre aux besoins de défense et de sécurité identifiés par la politique étrangère et de sécurité commune ainsi que l'amélioration des capacités européennes au sein de l'Alliance nord-Atlantique.

Hopes that the strategy will adopt a broad approach by setting out an agreed strategic vision for the future development of the Atlantic area, incorporating the territorial dimension, developing linkages between land and sea, and establishing a framework to better manage maritime and terrestrial planning policy in the Atlantic regions;

Believes that sea-fishing, in particular small-scale and coastal fisheries, and aquaculture activities must play a key role in maritime planning policies, since they could make a decisive contribution to more vigorous economic growth and to wealth and job creation; takes the view that the regionalisation of the common fisheries policy should result in the introduction of an ecosystem-based management approach tailored to the needs of the Atlantic area, and in this connection asks the Commission to engage in prior consultations with the Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) in the context of the implementation of the common fisheries policy and the management plans;

– (FR) I abstained from voting on the resolution on the trans-Atlantic partnership, even though it is, as a whole, an excellent one, containing as it does features that European Socialists, and Europeans generally, see as essential, namely the reaffirmation of the desire for multilateralism in trans-Atlantic policy, the importance accorded to international law, and the preservation of European social legislation with the adoption of Mr Obiols’ Amendment No 16.
