Even in the unlikely case that a majority could be found in favour of changing this - something which with the best will in the world I find hard to envisage - we still have the problem that labelling requirements introduced in the consumer interest are set to enter into force in two years' time. Under those rules it is compulsory to indicate where the animal was born, raised, fattened and slaughtered, etc. Clearly it is impossible for meat entering storage now to comply with these rules. And so in two years' time we will no longer be able to sell that meat, and it would have to be incinerated anyway.
