It seems to me that at a terrible time like this we could do well to ask ourselves what wise counsel Lester Pearson might offer. In the wake of these terrifying events, we need to reflect on the kind of international community we have created, where the images of mass destruction in the United States last week saw some Palestinian children actually dancing in the streets, where an international community can allow 5,000 children a month to die of malnutrition in Iraq, or hunger and preventable disease can claim the lives of thousands and thousands of children in the too many impoverished nations of the world.
Dans la foulée de ces événements terrifiants, nous devons nous interroger sur la communauté internationale que nous avons créée où, en voyant les images de destruction massive aux États-Unis la semaine dernière, des enfants palestiniens se sont mis à danser dans les rues, à cette communauté internationale qui peut laisser 5 000 enfants mourir de malnutrition chaque mois en Irak et plusieurs milliers d'enfants succomber à la faim et à des maladies évitables dans un trop grand nombre de pays.
