Van Miert, Vice-President of the Commission in charge of the competition policy and due to the commitments taken by the flemish authorities, the Commission has approved the restructuring aid package for Boelwerf, the Flemish yard that went bankrupt in October 1992 and was sold in the spring of 1993 to a combination of Begemann Belgium N.V. and Werfinvest NV, a daughter company of the public investment company Gimvindus.

Van Miert, vice-président de la Commission responsable de la politique de la concurrence et eu égard aux engagements pris par les autorités flamandes, la Commission a approuvé le train de mesures d'aide à la restructuration de Boelwerf, le chantier de construction navale flamand qui a fait faillite en octobre 1992 et a été vendu au printemps 1993 à l'association d'entreprises formée entre Begemann Belgium N.V. et Werfinvest NV, filiale de la société publique d'investissement Gimvindus.

To secure the financing of the contract GIMVINDUS the financial agency of the Flemish region is willing to provide guarantees for a construction loan to the yard and for the long term loan to the shipowner.
Afin de garantir le financement du contrat, GIMVINDUS, l'organisme financier de la région flamande, est prêt à accorder des garanties pour un prêt à la construction attribué au chantier et pour un prêt à long terme consenti à l'armateur.

The Flemish authorities gave the undertaking, that the aid will only be paid after the employees have left the yard and cannot be paid when these people are still doing productive work at the yard, to assure that the yard will not be paid for the wage costs of its employees an amount of 606.5m BF to be paid to the yard, reflecting the redundancy costs of 593 employees who are immediately leaving. c) Given the extent of the restructuring in the business plan agreed upon between Gimvindus and Begemann, the Commission will be ready to consider authorisation of an investment aid on the real investment costs proportional to the capacity reduction envisaged.
