I am very proud that it was the former leader of the New Democratic Party who stood in the House on February 17, 1981, to announce that an amendment would be accepted by the government which would ensure that aboriginal and treaty rights of first nations people would be as firmly entrenched in section 35 of the constitution as all other rights.
Je suis très fier que ce soit l'ancien chef du Nouveau Parti démocrate qui, le 17 février 1981, ait annoncé que le gouvernement acceptait d'apporter un changement à la Constitution afin de veiller à ce que les droits des autochtones et les droits issus des traités soient inscrits à l'article 35 la Constitution comme tous les autres droits.
