Another event on the Ombudsman’s calendar was the International Right to Know Day, which was held on 28 September, a seminar entitled ‘International Right to Know Day – Transparency and accountability in international development banks’ in cooperation with the EIB’s Complaints Mechanism.

I am not even asking Mrs Kuneva to give me an answer personally because, obviously, she is not the one with the information, but all the information she has given me is in line with what we already knew and with what the Ombudsman knows and yet she still has not told us whether the Commission – regardless of all that and knowing that the Ombudsman, who is familiar with the case, is recommending that the rule be changed – is going to act on the Ombudsman’s request and Parliament’s related recommendation.

Firstly, on the face of it this seems a very small number of inquiries compared with the complaints received and begs the question, even if the EU citizen knows that the European Ombudsman exists, does he or she know what he know what he actually does?

The right of EU citizens to work in any Member State is the right that citizens know best, while the right to reside in any Member State comes third, after the right to complain to the Ombudsman.
