23. Calls also on the Council and Commission to see if the Galileo system can assist in the immediate setting-up of an early-warning system for the tsunami-stricken Southeast Asian and East African countries in the Indian Ocean, but also to promote the implementation of an appropriate system of alert for ACP and Mediterranean countries as well as for the EU coastline; notes that ACP countries have long been calling for a disaster facility, and urges the Commission to provide new and fresh money in order to set up such a facility and provide a comprehensive early-warning mechanism for these regions;

This Agreement constitutes a framework for strengthening international cooperation for the purpose of conserving and making rational use of Indian Ocean tuna and related species through the establishment of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission, hereinafter called the "IOTC" and the adoption by the latter of resolutions on conservation and management in the area of competence of the IOTC which become binding on the contracting parties.

4. verzoekt de Commissie, de lidstaten en de andere landen die vissen in de Indische Oceaan, een actieve rol te gaan spelen in het beheer en de instandhouding van de visbestanden in deze Oceaan, met bijzondere aandacht voor het werk van de IOTC (Indian Ocean Tuna Commission, Commissie voor de tonijnvisserij in de Indische Oceaan); projecten als het markeringsprogramma van de IOTC moeten meer steun krijgen;

Urges the Commission, The Member States and other countries which fish in the Indian Ocean to undertake to play an active role in the management and conservation of the fisheries resources in that ocean, with particular regard to the work of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission; projects like the IOTC's tagging programme and other similar scientific research should obtain more support;

Bij deze overeenkomst wordt een adequaat kader voor het versterken van de internationale samenwerking met het oog op de instandhouding en het verantwoorde gebruik van tonijn en verwante vissoorten in de Indische Oceaan ingesteld, via de oprichting van de Commissie voor de tonijnvisserij in de Indische Oceaan, hierna „de IOTC” genoemd, en de vaststelling van voor de overeenkomstsluitende partijen bindende aanbevelingen op het gebied van de instandhouding en het beheer in het bevoegdheidsgebied van de IOTC. De Gemeenschap dient de door de IOTC aangenomen controlemaatregelen toe te passen.
The Agreement provides a useful framework for strengthening international cooperation for the purpose of conserving and rationally utilising Indian Ocean tuna and related species, through creation of the IOTC and the adoption of recommendations on conservation and management in its area of competence that become binding on Contracting Parties. The Community should apply the control measures adopted by the IOTC.
