In the sheltered wooded area, temperatures soon rose in the long sunny days, but along the ice-bound lake shores, especially the Keith Arm, into which the east wind pushed, the ice temperatures remained low until late July, when the ice finally melted from the bays and both the fish and mosquitoes would return.
