The Commission wishes to express its surprise that the honourable Member is accusing a Commission official of taking decisions affecting a multinational whose interests he defends, and points out that the decisions on the issues in question were taken by the Commission as a whole or by the Director-General concerned, following consultation with the relevant services. The Commission consequently fails to understand why the Commissioner has been called into question in this regard. The Commission would be interested to know on what grounds the honourable Member makes these allegations.

In the specific case referred to by the Honourable Member, the Commission can confirm that it is in the process of examining whether the official in question will be in a position to comply with the relevant provisions of the Staff Regulations (Articles 16 and 17), in joining the board of directors of British Nuclear Fuels UK as an independent non-executive member after leaving the post of Director-General of DG Environment at the Commission.
