B. whereas the first legislative steps of the Israeli coalition government, in place since May 2015, have confirmed its nationalist, pro-settlement and far-right ideological leanings, as indicated by the adoption of the forced-feeding bill, the toughening of sanctions against stone-throwers and a proposal to expand the use of the death penalty; whereas draft bills aiming at limiting the authority of the Supreme Court as well as restricting the public space for civil society actors are in the making; whereas the Israeli government has announced the construction of hundreds of new settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank and has resumed the construction of the separation wall, in spite of it having been ruled as illegal by the International Court of Justice in 2004;
B. considérant que le gouvernement de coalition israélien, en place depuis mai 2015, a confirmé, à travers ses premières mesures législatives, ses tendances idéologiques nationalistes, d'extrême-droite et favorables aux colonies de peuplement, notamment en adoptant la loi sur l'alimentation forcée, en durcissant les sanctions contre les lanceurs de pierres et en proposant d'élargir le recours à la peine de mort; considérant que des projets de loi visant à limiter l’autorité de la Cour suprême ainsi que l’espace public pour les acteurs de la société civile sont en cours d’élaboration; considérant que le gouvernement israélien a annoncé la construction de centaines de nouvelles colonies à Jérusalem-Est et en Cisjordanie et a repris la construction du mur de séparation, bien qu’il ait été jugé illégal par la Cour internationale de justice en 2004;

8. Considers that the composition of the Israeli coalition government, as well as the agenda of the latter, including intensified settlement expansion, continued impunity for violations in the occupied territory and forcible displacement of Palestinians, is a major impediment to the two-state solution and underscores the need for the EU to take urgent steps to protect its viability; calls on the EU to challenge the inexistent will and incentive for the current Israeli government to negotiate an end to the conflict;
8. estime que la composition de ce gouvernement de coalition israélien, ainsi que son programme, notamment l’intensification de l’extension des colonies de peuplement, la poursuite de l’impunité pour les violations dans les territoires occupés et les déplacements forcés de Palestiniens, constituent un obstacle majeur à la solution fondée sur la coexistence de deux États et souligne la nécessité pour l’Union de prendre des mesures urgentes pour préserver sa viabilité; demande à l’Union de protester contre l'absence de volonté et de motivation du gouvernement israélien actuel pour négocier la fin du conflit;

I am thinking in particular of the coalition for peace, whose prime movers are Yossi Beilin, former Israeli Minister and negotiator of the Oslo agreements and Yasser Abed Rabbo, outgoing Palestinian government Minister, also a steadfast proponent of Israeli-Palestinian dialogue.
