The Joint Africa-EU Strategy was adopted by Heads of State and Government from Africa and Europe at the Lisbon Summit in December 2007.

This South Africa-EU Summit will provide an opportunity to strengthen the strategic relation between the EU and South Africa and to discuss a number of key issues, in particular the South Africa-EU strategic partnership, key peace and security topics in Africa and beyond, but also global governance, climate change, trade, development issues, and the relations between Africa and Europe as a whole, as set down in the joint Africa-EU strategy.
Ce sommet permettra de renforcer les liens stratégiques entre les deux parties et d'examiner un certain nombre de dossiers clés, dont le partenariat stratégique Afrique du Sud-UE, les principales questions liées à la paix et à la sécurité en Afrique et ailleurs, mais aussi la gouvernance mondiale, le changement climatique, le commerce, les questions de développement et les relations entre l'Afrique et l'Europe dans leur ensemble, comme le prévoit la stratégie commune UE-Afrique.

Ce sommet Afrique du Sud-UE sera l’occasion de renforcer les liens stratégiques entre l’UE et l’Afrique du Sud et d’aborder plusieurs questions d’intérêt majeur, notamment le partenariat stratégique Afrique du Sud-UE, les grands thèmes apparentés à la paix et à la sécurité en Afrique et dans d’autres régions du monde, mais également la gouvernance mondiale, le changement climatique, le commerce, les questions liées au développement et les relations entre l’Afrique et l’Europe dans leur ensemble, telles que définies dans la stratégie commune Afrique-UE.

Since the 2010 Africa-EU Summit, the EU and Africa have been active in supporting the implementation of the second Joint Africa-EU Strategy (JAES) action plan 2011-2013, which was set up by the European Commission, in collaboration with its African partners, to deliver more and better results.
Depuis le sommet Afrique‑UE de 2010, l’UE et l’Afrique s’attachent à appuyer la mise en œuvre du deuxième plan d’action 2011‑2013 au titre de la stratégie commune Afrique‑UE, élaboré par la Commission européenne, en collaboration avec ses partenaires africains, pour obtenir des résultats en plus grand nombre et de meilleure qualité.

Participants will also discuss progress and the way forward for the Joint Africa-EU strategy that puts EU relations with Africa on a new footing, based on the pursuit of shared values, common interests and strategic objectives.

- having regard to the Joint Africa-EU Strategy (‘Joint Strategy’) and the first Action Plan (2008-2010) for the implementation of the Africa-EU Strategic Partnership, adopted by EU and African heads of state and government meeting in Lisbon on 8 and 9 December 2007,
