This was because the Anti-terrorism Act was used by the RCMP to execute search warrants at the home and office of Ottawa Citizen journalist Juliet O’Neill, on the grounds that she might have information in her possession classified as secret in relation to the investigation of Maher Arar.31 The validity of the search warrants used against Ms. O’Neill were quashed by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in O’Neill v. Canada (Attorney General),32 a decision rendered on 19 October 2006.
